Greetings Rotarians As the Holiday season kicks into full gear, I wanted to take a minute and bring you up to date on what has happened in your club over the last month. We have inducted two new members. Jody Cox joins us representing the Mid Illinois chapter of the Red Cross. She recently moved back to Decatur after graduating from Millikin several years ago. I believe the Jody may be our youngest member. Jody was sponsored by Stu Ellis. Deric Walker joins us representing Walker Funeral Home. Deric is a Decatur native and the nephew of former club members Tom Walker and Roger Walker. He was sponsored by David Goebel. Please make sure to introduce yourselves to Jody and Deric in the coming weeks. The club will participate in several holiday activities. Many club members will attend the community Thanksgiving celebration on November 25th. Dave Cooprider has once again found club volunteers to help out with the Turkey Tournament. Club members will ring the Salvation Army bells at various locations on the first Saturday of December. We still have openings. Please reach out to Delmar Sandage if you can help. The programs over the last month have been excellent. In the nine years that I have been a member, I don’t recall a time when we had two candidates who were seeking national office speak to our club. We also heard from Walt Hupe, the new plant manager of one of our largest employers, Caterpillar. He presented an interesting perspective on how important the global marketplace is to our community. Finally, it is always a treat to have our own Bruce Nims present. You did a great job Bruce. That is all for now. I wish everyone and their families the happiest of Holidays. If anyone has any comments for me, please do not hesitate to call me or drop me an email. Pen Shade |
